Nearly all of us, at some point, in our daily routines use ‘Public hot spots’ to connect to Wi-fi, be at airports, hotels & cafes, to name just a few places.

Our main worries usually being is how quickly and easily we can connect to them, but have you ever thought just how secure these public networks are? Have you ever considered how venerable you really are in trusting in these public networks with your personal & browsing data?

The truth is, we all should be more concerned with protecting ourselves in these circumstances. It is extremely easy, in most cases, for cyber-criminals to ‘eavesdrop’ on your device when connected to a public network and are able to see and process all that you see, even manipulating you in to seeing ‘false’ sites where you would enter your personal data such as passwords or bank/payment details.

How can we protect ourselves from this invasion into our privacy?

A Virtual Private Network (VPN), lets you create a safe & secure connection to another network over the Internet websites, shielding your activity from prying eyes on public Wi-Fi, and more.

How does it work?

In simple terms, a VPN connects your PC, laptop, smartphone, or tablet to another computer (called a server) somewhere on the internet, this allows you to browse the internet using that computer’s internet connection. This will then give your protection from any ‘eavesdroppers’ on the public network.

When you are browsing the internet while connected to a VPN, your computer makes contact with the website through the secure & encrypted VPN connection. The VPN then will forward the request for you and forwards the response from the website back through the secure connection. All that any ‘snoopers’ will be able to view is the connection to the VPN and no further. Your personal browsing and data will be secured.

Don’t get caught and think it will never happen to you, everyone’s personal data & browsing history is an extremely important commodity to cyber-criminals. VPN’s pay a very important part in keeping you secure wherever you connect to public networks-don’t leave home without it!
